New curtains for new windows

In an attempt to be more energy efficient, we insulated our kitchen and replaced the old drafty windows. In past years, our kitchen was always the coldest room of the house .

So, I decided that new windows deserved new curtains. I found these on the internet, and they were not very expensive. The long panels were $12 a piece and the two valances over the sink were $6 a piece. By the way, Rikki approves!
Basket Case

I was in my kitchen, doing the dishes, when I heard an odd noise. It was sort of a clunk or a thud. Lucky that waste paper basket wasn’t full.

Rikki seems to have a thing for baskets. My cat is strange.
Weird ear hair?

This is my mother-in-law Nikki’s kitten. His name is Boots because he has four white paws.

The hair that curls out of his ears is weird but cute.

The Pipe Project

Remember that picture of me, sitting on top of that big blue pipe? It’s part of the “Save our driveway from crumbling and falling into the creek” project. This first picture shows the huge gap between the driveway and a cement barrier. I always had to worry that in winter, someone’s car could slip off our icy driveway and land nose down in our creek. Scary.

The first step was to cut that massive pipe in half, create a bed of stone in the creek, place the pipe in position down in the creek, and then reattach it, and connect it to the existing concrete pipe.

The next step involved spreading twelve tons of 3/4 inch stone on top of the pipe. And finally, tons of dirt.

Next, we planted several vinca vine plants. We needed to get plantings in there so that the roots will help prevent rain from washing all our new top soil into the creek. That red X is where the gap from the first picture used to be.

The last step was to plant grass seed in front of the vinca vine. Hopefully it will look grassy next spring. Thursday, the guys that did all this hard work are coming back to work on the other side of the driveway. I know these pictures are small, but they will all get bigger if you click on them.
Sample reading
Recently, I did a palm reading for Jen. I have noted that a couple people who commented are interested in a reading. I will do my best, if you post a picture for me on your blog. But for now, I will do a sample reading of my own palm, and I’ll try to explain why I say what I say. I guess you can call it a mini lesson.
• My heart line starts the mound of Jupiter, below the index finger. This means I have a normal love life. Nothing special here.
• My life line is quite short. This does not mean that my life will be brief. It means that I am not living up to my potential . Life lines are more about quality than quantity.
• My head line slopes downward. This is a sign of creativity. A straighter line would be for a more logical, practical person.
• The fate line starts at the wrist and mine starts with a fork. That represents a choice in paths.
• Do you see all those horizontal lines to the lower left of my thumb? Those are worry lines. I have lots of those!
•I also have a few X’s on my palm, and a lot of thin spidery lines all over. Both are supposed represent psychic ability.
•You’ll have to turn your hand to look at marriage and children lines. I have one marriage line. It reveals tha my relationship with Chris started early, because this horzontal line starts high, underneath my pinky. I was twenty years old when we started dating.
• You may need a magnifying glass to look for children lines, They are the vertical lines that cross the marriage line. Bold lines are for boys and the lines for girls are more faint.
Weird Pose Friday

I was going through all my pictures that I have stored on the computer to try to organize them somehow. What a nightmare that is. Anyhow, I came across this old picture of Rikki that Megan took. Basically, Rikki was passed out on Megan’s bed and my art school daughter had a bit of fun with the camera.

Maple

I was looking at this yellow and orange leafed maple tree, as I was walking down the driveway and it looked to me as if someone had taken a bite, right out of the middle.

Here’s a closer look at this tree’s pretty colors.
