Hand Made Christmas Cards

When I was growing up, one of our family holiday traditions centered around the production of our family’s Christmas card.  The were designed and silk screened by my mom.

The card always featured my older sister Rosemary and I, and what we were up to.   It was truly quite a process, to get those cards printed every year.

First, my mom would create a template for each of the different colors used.   When it was time to begin the printing, the silk screen would be set up in the basement of our home.

Each color was printed during a seperate session.   Every card would have to be positioned exacty, so the colors of the final print would line up correctly.   My dad would pour the paint onto the screen, my mom would squeegee it across, then my sister and I would set them all out to dry on the ping pong table.

My mom started making these christmas cards when my sister was a baby, and continued until I went off to college.

Mugs

I have a confession to make.   Lately I’ve been dealing with a mug obsession.   These were all made by by my daughter Megan and I should be satisfied with what I have but no, I want more.   Every morning, I have my coffee in a different one.

Inside Outside

We have three cats at our house these days.   Bree, who is not pictured, still goes outside but he is 16 years old and pretty much spends his days napping.   We also have Pigeon who likes to go outside and play.   When she is ready to be let in, we see her peeking though the window.   Of course there is Rikki who always wants to go outside…

This stone frog sits at the bottom of my front porch steps.   I almost didn’t find him.

Unusual Morning

A couple mornings ago I woke up with a headache, and that wonderful husband of mine brought me coffee in bed, before he left for work.   I should have known that something was up, when I noticed that the furntzer basket was completely empty.

I walked into the kitchen, and I opened a cupboard. OK, there’s one.

Then there’s the three I found in the fridge.

One in the fruit bowl…

One by the spice rack…

And one sleeping, in the frying pan!

Weird art?

This is a piece that my daughter made.   It is a broken plate, with a picture of a mermaid, and an inscription that reads “Things will only get worse”.   I think the weirdest thing about this piece is the fact that my daughter made it.   Her disposition is usually quite sunny.   Anyway, I hope the inscription is not true, because lately, we have had a lot of unusual things go awry.

Bad Carma Thursday

Last Thursday we had a bit of car trouble.   I took my mother-in-law to a doctor’s appointment, and we ended up using their valet parking, so she wouldn’t have far to walk.   When we were all done and the car was brought around, the driver told me there was a little problem.   He had dented my car!

He then proceded to tell me that it could be easily fixed by me with the use of a plunger.   Um - no.   Anyway, the estimate to get this fixed (on their insurance) is $750. The man that gave me the estimate pointed out a black oval, in the middle of the dent.   It would appear that the guy that had dented my car, had tried that plunger trick himself, before he handed me back the car.

But that was not the end of our troubles.   My daughter Megan came home for a visit that evening.  She was about to leave when she said: “By the way dad, why did you change my licence plate?”   He did not change her licence plate!   So, after looking at her car and discovering that some nefarious person had switched her back licence plate with a different one, we called the police.   Yikes.

Happiness is a 4gb memory stick

Last Saturday, Chris & I went shopping and I came home with a 4GB Memory Stick for my digital camera.   This is a little card that fits into a slot at the bottom of my camera.   Ben tells me that the technology of this is similar to that of a jump drive.   The result of adding this device is 4 gb of additional photo storage.   That would be four billion extra bytes.

Now, I can change the resolution of my pictures from 3 megapixels to 6 megapixels, thus doubling the clarity.   Also I can now increase the amount of pictures from 20 at 3 megapixels, to 1300 pictures, at 6 megapixels.   All for around $25 dollars.

I cropped this cardinal out of a much bigger picture.   He shows up a lot more clearly at the higher resolution.
