It is that in between time of year in Northern Ohio, where the weather likes to change it’s mind, and it goes back and forth for awhile. Yesterday, we started the morning with 50 degrees and rain. By afternoon it was cold and snowy again. Oh well. Blink your eyes, and it will change again.
I found this nest in one of my tallest trees, in the back woods. “It’s so huge, what bird would conceivably build a nest like that?” My neighbor Jean had a answer for me. “It’s a squirrel’s nest!” she replied. I would have never guessed that.

I have been taking a class about making jewelry since mid January and I’m having a lot of fun with it.
I made this pair of earrings. First I created the design. Then, I cut out the shapes with a special hand saw. Holes were placed at the top with a hand drill, to slip the ear wire into. And finally, I used Chris’s DREMEL with a stone grinding head to create the texture.
I can’t Believe how close this pileated woodpecker gets to my front picture window. I see him every day now.
Simone has gone back home with my daughter Megan, and Rikki has lost his bird watching buddy.

We had some snow around here these past few days. Here are a few of the birds that I took pictures of around our yard.
Just look at all those male Cardinals, waiting politely for their lady to finish eating. What good manners they have!
When I took that walk around my yard a couple days ago, I also saw the beginings of my Sweet William. This perennial flower was planted by the family that lived in our house before us. We moved here in 1982. Since then I have continued the to transplant this pretty pink flower to many other locations in my yard. Is Rikki unusally large or is Simone unusally small?
