Blurring A background
Blurring a background
One new thing that I have learned lately is how to blur a background, but keep the subject sharp. This picture of my cat Bree is the original.
I like the way Bree pops out in this picture. The sofa in the background has been blurred. This effect was accomplished with the help of my open source photo editing software called The GIMP. I cut out Bree with the scissors tool, and then selected only the background to blur.

Boy, you should be proud of yourself with all these photo techniques/computer software you are learning. Very nice

Nice job - it does make things stand out in the foreground. I may have to check out that “Gimp” as I am missing some things I need to be able to do on this new computer.

Very nice. Your subject looks so pensive.

If I could ever properly budget my time, I would try things like that. I’m also not as patient as you appear to be.
