Spring Beauties

Spring Beauties

These pretty blue flowers are always the first to bloom in my yard every Spring.   They are called Spring Beauty Scilla or Siberian Squill.

Grown from hardy bulbs, these clusters of tiny slate blue flowers originated from Russia and Eurasia.

Spring beauties are very resilient to snaps of cold weather and snow.   Fortunately, they recover nicely.

They are a great choice for naturlaized gardens like mine, because they tend to show up in unexpected places, like in this picture of my woods.

  1. Oh how pretty, Elise. They look almost like a lily of some kind. How pretty… Looks like they would be a good ground cover (like the periwinkle we use). Our Periwinkle has tiny blue flowers –and spreads nicely. Your woods look like the empty lot next door to us. That’s where we get all of our ‘free’ Periwinkle. (Hope they never sell that lot! ha)

    Have a wonderful day.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  2. I really like the way the sun is shinning on those flowers. It makes me really wish spring would hurry up to Michigan. We got rain all day today so maybe things can start to warm up now.

  3. Those are pretty Elise. They remind me of my flax I found in my backyard.

  4. I sure do like seeing flowers in “unexpected areas” like that.

  6. Very nice. Siberian Squill…sounds so exotic! It seems hard to find true blue flowers. Those are nice.
