More Firewood

More firewood

We hired a tree service to inspect all of our large locust trees which were close enough to our house to do major damage, if they were to fall on our home.   Eight trees were identified as being rotted inside.   How was this assessed?   A hole was located and a stick inserted.   Damp saw dust was scooped out from inside the trees, as evidence that the trees were indeed rotting and potentially dangerous.   Many of them were also leaning towards the house.   This new wood pile is THREE rows deep.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this and I couldn’t watch for long, I think my fear of heights started to kick in.

The next day, we hired a stump grinder to get rid of all the remaining stumps.   as you can see, we still have lots of trees left!

  1. It looks so nice where you live Elise. Those guys sure deserve every penny they make. I cannot imagine doing that for a living.

  2. Oh man … I’d LOVE to have a stack of firewood like that!

You’ll be toasty warm next winter.

  4. Wow… that is a woodpile! I don’t know how those guys go up into those trees like that. I be half scared to death.

  5. Wow—your wood pile is HUGE.. We pay big bucks for our wood for the fireplace. Glad you still have plenty of trees left. I love our big shade trees —and hope that none fall on our home. You are smart to get the bad trees cut down…

Again, I love your ‘border’ —and photos.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  6. Reminds me of that show “Axe Men” on the discovery channel. But not quite as life threatening, I guess. Good thing they know what their doing.

  7. Oh so sad to see them go, wonder how old they were?
I hope a log spliter was used to do the ground work.

  8. Oh yes! A log splitter was used. I can’t imagine how long it would have taken with out one. They would probably still be at it!

  9. Hi Elise…. I put peanuts and black oil sunflowers and cracked corn…. I buy it all mixed together in a mix call “Nutty Safari” by morning song. That is also the seed mix I put in my platform feeders for the birds. But they would be very happy with just peanuts… their favorite. I can buy bulk peanuts at my local family farm and home store. You should make one of those squirrel feeders, they are very entertaining to watch.
