White Trillium
White Trillium
We have a patch of Periwinkle in front of the house that encircles several Locust trees. Residing also in this shady spot is one White Trillium. It has bloomed every year that we have lived here. That would be 27 years.
This picture is one I took last year, around May 10th. In it the Trillium has turned pink, which it does right before it dies for the season. Trilliums have three petals. The name translates to “three” in Latin. In 1987, it became the official wildflower for the state of Ohio. You can see that the Lillies of the Valley are just starting to bloom, as the Trillium is fading.

My brother just posted a picture of a field of these. I don’t think I’ve seen them around here, but I’m sure they’re around somewhere. Maryland’s are probably pink by now.

I have one trillium growing that a co-worker gave me. It hasn’t bloomed or anything. It just sits there and looks healthy.

Is your trillium in the shade? That’s where they prefer to be. Sometimes they need a year or two to settle in before they start to bloom.

Oooo…pretty trilliums.
We used to have Lily of the Valley along the side of our house when we lived up north. I always loved seeing it for the first time of the season. That meant spring had arrived.

Yes, it’s been trillium time around here for sure,as Margaret noted. Ours faithfully comes back every year. For some reason, the usual three become five this year.
