Exciting weekend!

Our driveway is covered in stone and can be very pretty when it isn’t covered in weeds.

I researched a non toxic weed killer over the internet and came up with a combination white vinagar and dish soap and I sprayed the offending growth with this early last week .

By friday, most of the weeds turned brown and the roots were pretty easy to pull.   Then Chris showed me an easier way.   He used the cultivator on the rest.

The Detail Sander

Every August it’s the same old thing: The porch railing needs a touch up painting.   This job has traditionally been designated as all mine.   This year I am sanding and repainting thoroughly because we are about to have the house sided and I want the porch railing to look neat and fresh too.

After struggling with a larger and bulkier electric sander I had an epiphany.   Shouldn’t there be an type of sander that gets into those little nooks and crannies?   So I sent Chris to the hardware store and this is what he bought me!

Next Door

The property next door has 22 acres.   For twenty years, the house to our east was abandoned and falling apart.   One year ago the owners tore the house down.

It’s amazing how fast the land has gone back to nature.  I imagine that if it is left alone, It will eventually turn back into forest, which is fine by me.

My favorite Vase

As a child, this little vase was always my favorite.   I don’t know anything about its history, was it always mine, or did it belong to my mom first?   It’s hard not having her here to ask.   I do know that I remember it being in my bedroom as a child, filled with summer flowers from my mom’s garden.  These days, I have to google all the flowers I put in any vase, just to make sure they are not poisenous, because my cat Rikki will eat anything.

Is it too wild?

Megan came home last night with a box of pottery and a curtain I gave her a while back.   She had silk screened the curtain with a wild pattern of birds on top in red and blue, and cats in green and brown at the bottom.   Well, I hung up that curtain in my laundry room.   What do you think?  The colors are right but is it too wild?   Should I ask her if I can keep it?

A close up

Here is the pattern up close.

April Trees

The true colors in this photo are black and white. It was taken during yesterday’s dreary and foggy evening. My reality is devoid of greenery, but in my imagination…

My front porch

It has been snowing all day and there is over a foot of snow in the driveway. This is what my front porch looks like today.

Where are my steps?

And I seem to have lost my front steps.

View of my back Yard today

And here is today’s view of my back yard.
Tonight we set the clocks to spring forward. I wish it were that simple.
