Mom’s holiday Jello mold

Every holiday, my mom would make her black cherry jello mold, and for many years, I have made it for Christmas Dinner. I made this for a dinner I had for Chris’ mom and sister yesterday.

Here is the list of ingredients:

  • 2 cans of Bing Cherries
  • 6 oz black cherry jello
  • whipping cream
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup Port wine

Drain the cherries but save the juice.   Place the cherries on the bottom of a ring mold.

Heat the juice to a boil, along with enough water to make 3 & 1/2 cups.   Dissolve the jello in the hot liquid and then add the Port WIne.   Pour into the mold and chill overnight to set firm.

Here is the finished product, with a bowl of whipped cream placed in the middle.   My mom used to add a little Miracle Whip to the whipped cream, but I left it out so I could use the left over to top the pie we had for dessert.

Getting stuff done (in the wrong order)

Today I roasted pumpkin seeds using this method.   Then I placed them in a funky ceramic bowl that was made by my daughter.

Too bad I didn’t pay the bills first because when I got ready to deal with them, this is what I found.   Thanks Rikki, hope you enjoyed your snack!

Out to Lunch

Megan and I had lunch today at one of our favorite restaurants.   I have blogged about Corky and Lenny’s before.   You can click HERE for a second look.   We both ordered smoked white fish sandwiches, which is a change from our usual bagels, lox and cream cheese.

Megan ordered a chocolate Phosphate.   What is that you ask?   It’s a carbonated drink made by mixing chocolate syrup and club soda.

Then we went to an upscale shopping mall called Eaton Square, where the outside flower arrangements and topiary trees are a bit over the top.   Here is Megan on a bench that resembles an old boat looking out to sea. (The parking lot really.)

The flowers are really pretty here and this shopping center has our favorite grocery store, which is called Trader Joe’s.

Corky & Lenny’s

I had lunch with my friend Janet on Friday, who I have been good friends with since high school.   We went to Corky and Lenny’s, which is an amazing deli that has been in business as long as I can remember.

Here are some of our family’s favorite dishes to order.  Would you believe that they actually have mail order info on their website?
